Hawks Prospect Saad OHL Player of the Week

Hawks prospect Brandon Saad, the Hawks 2nd round pick in the 2011 draft, had an impressive camp and due in part to injuries at forward made the Hawks opening night lineup.  Saad played in two games and recorded 3 shots before being sent back to his junior team in the Ontario Hockey League the Saginaw Spirit.  Saad made headlines at the beginning of the month by being the first 18 year old not drafted in the first round to make an opening night roster since Ryan O’Reilly of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2009-10 season.  Now Saad is closing out October by being named the OHL player of the week for the week ending October 23rd.  Saad recorded 6 goals and 4 assists in three games during the week for a massive 10 points.  Saad now has 8 goals and 5 assists for 13 points in just five games since being returned to juniors from the Hawks.  I think it is safe to say we should see Saad wearing an Indian Head Sweater again, and this time for good, come opening night next season.

Update:  Brandon Saad was also named the Canadian Hockey League player of the week.  Great job Brandon!
